The Congregation of the Kinmount United Church took place in 1859, when a saddle-back Preacher, the Rev. William S. Clark, of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland, established Services of Worship in the early homes of the hamlet for all denominations who attended these services. Rev. Clark also became the first teacher of the children of the newly named hamlet of KINMOUNT.
B y the year 1866, the congregation had grown to such an extent that there was a dire need for a Church to be built. The land on Cluxton St. on East Hill was offered by the Hunter family near to the Main Street, then the Bobcaygeon Road down the hill to the east.
The church was built and dedicated in late September of 1867 - and named the Kinmount Presbyterian Church. The Church of England (Angican) and the Baptist Church also met at the newly built facility and soon built separate churches in the 1880's.
In 1910, The Union Alliance Church of Canada was born in Raybourn, Saskatchewan and the Kinmount Presbyterian Church congregation chose to join the Alliance Church. The United Church of Canada was finally established in 1925 and the Congregation then voted to join and the church was again renamed the Kinmount United Church.
The Church remained a Singular Pastoral Charge until 1951, when the Coboconk Four Point Pastoral Charge was formed when Burnt River, Coboconk, Norland and Kinmount United Churches came together.
This four Point Charge organization continued until January 1, 2006 when the Lindsay Presbytery declared the Kinmount United Church a Single Pastoral Charge once again. The church has enjoyed great success since this new structure was established through its Ministers, its ministry, community services and involvement, spirituality, steady growth of its congregation in an open and caring environment.
The congregation celebrated its 150th Commemorative Celebration in 2009 and in 2012 the church building will Celebrates its 145th Anniversary serving the spiritual, the pastoral care and active involvemnt in our community and region.
